Typically, the 1st trimester is linked to morning sickness, nausea and vomiting. For myself, I must say I was pretty blessed with less extreme morning sickness, but that did not mean I was clear of morning sickness. In the earlier days of my 1st trimester, I experienced morning sickness and nausea where I had no appetite for food, but yet I had to eat because of my history of gastric pains. P.s. I cleared with my gynae and my best friend - Gaviscon - was safe for consumption during pregnancy! Thank god I could rely on that if my gastric were to return!
Half the time I would find myself gagging and eating at the same time (no idea how I managed that...), and the only way to prevent the food from coming out was to down lots of water. Water was TRULY my best friend - up till today! I experienced insatiable thirst and found myself bringing a bottle of water everywhere I went!
Slowly, this morning sickness became this constant lingering of bitterness in my mouth, and honestly, I hated it! There was no way I could get rid of the taste, other than to mask it with other tastes from my all-time favourite - ORANGE PEEL. Seasoned fruits, or plums didn't really work for me but orange peel, worked wonders! Sometimes I would even find myself falling asleep with a slice of orange peel in my mouth hahaha
Nearing the end of the 1st trimester, my morning, or rather evening sickness, got worse and I started vomiting at night :( That truly sucked especially when I am trying to sleep! I would make up for the lack of appetite at night by eating more in the morning and in the afternoon! As a result, I didn't gain any weight as I was "losing" at night, but "gaining" in the day HAHA! There were mummies who lost weight during the first trimester due to the lack of appetite and constant vomiting, and there were also mummies who would typically gain about 2-3kg.
I didn't experience much cravings but I found myself liking cold things more and soon enough, I didn't really care about not drinking any cold drinks and just drank whenever I felt like it hahahaha. I'm currently in Week 13 and I must say, my 'evening sickness' is still present and I really cannot wait for it to be goneee!
