Stepping into motherhood was a huge decision for both my husband and I and now that I am (happily and shockingly) pregnant, it definitely feels extremely surreal! :) Truly thankful that my husband and I are both on the same page when it comes to a kid - whatever it takes for the growth and development of our child. Having a kid brings about the inevitable dilemma of climbing up the economic ladder vs the growth of the child. Thankfully we both crazily family-oriented, and that definitely helps with the decisions to be made nearing the EDD.
Finding out about the pregnancy
Having allowed mother nature to take its course, we were astonishingly and pleasantly surprised to know that I was expecting! I remembered calling my husband while he was still at work to tell him the good news and he was in disbelief too! We told our families soon after and were subsequently treated with way too much care and love hahahahhaa :D
Deciding on a gynae
As the research freak that I am, I was all excited to find a suitable gynae and soon was flooded with decision fatigue! I only had 2 criteria when finding one:
Near to where I was staying (west side) for the ease of travelling to and fro
A slightly more 'talkative' gynae who is willing to share, without me asking questions (I believe this is really helpful for first-time mothers, who aren't sure of what they do not know and would like to know more information anyway!)
Soon I decided on Astra Women's Specialist - Dr Tho, as he had really good reviews, and of course, his clinic was close to where I was staying! :)
Going to the gynae
I had to call to make an appointment and I had decided to make an appointment on my supposed Week 6 despite finding out about my pregnancy on Week 3. I just reckoned there wasn't a rush to go to gynae in the earlier stages!
We made an appointment on a Saturday and due to the busy nature of weekends, we were given either a morning slot (9am - 12pm) or an afternoon slot (2pm - 5pm) to choose from and it is a first-come-first-served basis during that timeslot. We reached at 9am, and we were surprised to find out that, we were queue number 11! Ever since that experience of waiting for up to an hour, we have decided to choose weekdays, 5pm - last slot for the day!
On the first visit, their first consultation fee was $130 (repeated consultation is $90) and we also took an ultrasound that cost $100. Subsequent ultrasounds cost $70. You could only purchase their package ($1120 as of July 2020) from week 20 onwards - & this I will keep you updated in the following posts! :)
